I wonder how many times the Lord has rescued us, protected us, pulled us out of situations....because of someone else's prayers...
In Genesis we find the first recorded intercession between God and man...Abraham humbly, yet boldly stands before the Lord...asking 6 times on the behalf of Lot and his family that they would be rescued from the fate of Sodom.
The Lord agreed and sent angels to bring Lot and his family out of the city before it was destroyed. It's this verse that struck me
"when Lot hesitated, the angels grabbed his hand" they grabbed his hand and the hands of all of his family and got them out.
When the Lord says He is going to do something, He is going to do it...and by whatever means necessary... We can count on Him.
This rescue had nothing to do with Lot (other than him being the one rescued) and everything to do with Abraham standing before the Lord and pleading not once, not twice, but 6 times in one encounter....
The bible is full of people, even our Jesus interceding on behalf of you and me before our heavenly Father. From Moses, to Ezra, Elijah, Stephen and many many more... Who are we interceding for? The scriptures tell us that "petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for all people..." 1Tim:1
So, who are we asking the Lord to help, rescue, deliver, or ....
Romans 8:34 tells us that Jesus "is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us." there are multiple places in the word that show us this... and multiple places telling us the importance of it...
Let's approach our Lord as Abraham did...humbly, yet boldly...
- lowering our self-importance...yet showing an ability to take a risk with confidence.
Hebrews 4:16 says "let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."
Let's make sure we intercede for others, it may just be what grasps their hand when they hesitate....
